You're doing the right thing by using the powder. What you probably have is jock itch, caused by a fungus in the air that has decided to take up residence in your groin. Fungus likes a moist, warm, dark area to grow but is easily defeated with an antifungal like Tinanctin, Lotrimin, etc. available over the counter at your pharmacy. I use it on a fairly regular basis as a preventative during the summer months.

Chaffing

You can get a yeast infection non-sexually. Whether it's a fungus or yeast doesn't really matter - yeasts are just a type of fungus, and they are treated with the same stuff. Any cream for tinea/athlete's foot/ringworm/jock itch is an anti-fungal cream that you could try. You may well have some at home; otherwise you can buy it at any pharmacy. It may however not be infected at all, but just a worse than usual case of chafing. The more damage caused by chafing, the longer it takes to heal.

ok well..its getting worse, and I am keeping it as dry as possible. I've been using Tinactin for jock-itch (it saiod it worked on chafing too). I noticed today after the shower that it has turned into a big patch of like white-head looking things. There small and lots of them. Closer to my penis, the skin is actually broken. I am a virgin, so no possibility of STD's. Should I just keep keeping it dry and wait, or what?

I'd keep using the Tinactin for a couple of days. If it's not getting better by then, then it may be a bacterial infection.

It's been a couple of days since you first posted and whatever it is that you have has gotten a good head start on your treatment. Stay with the antifungal treatment for a couple of days and if it doesn't improve you might need to see a doctor. Some things start out easy to treat but bacteria can move into the stressed area and have to be taken care of with antibiotics.

Lots of suggestions for you so far from sTD's to yeast or fungus infestions. But a friend of mine had the same problem you describe and the doctor attributed it to his underwear. Yep it was not only chafing from the briefs but an allergy to one of the materials in them. So, he showered daily, kept everything nice & dry and went commando for a week or so and the problem cleared up. Then he tried each different kind of underwear he had to see which ones were the culprit. Turned out to be his low rise much-less-than-100% cotton ones with one of th eman-made fibers doing the mischief.
maybe that will help.

i was just thinking that along with the tinactin he should try using anti-bacterial soap...i notice, by chance that is what i had been using when whatever i had cleared up. which sounded close to what he discribed in the original post.
and thank you guys i also got some help from your replies...

Ok, sorry for pulling up a "dead" post but this is getting close to unbearable. It's gotten alot worse. The skin is dark dark red, and seems like it is constantly peeling. The chafing feeling and symptoms has seem to "spread" to my scrotum- it never have been there before. I've used tinactin, babu powder, gold bond medicated powder, and a perscription thing we've had for serious baby rash and stuff. I have also noticed the skin splitting. I know I need to get to a doctor, and unfortunately it is the weekend so I have to wait till Monday. I also think this is more that just chafing, because I have never had a case ever anywhere near as serious and this. Again, I know for a fact it isn't an STD, because I have had no sex or sexual contact to transmit a disease. Any more ideas??
Thanks guys -
Yes, it does sound like an infection. Sometimes it can start as chafing and that then makes infection happen more easily. It will need a doctor to find out what it is. If it isn't fungal it may be bacterial, or even an insect such as pubic lice (crabs) or scabies - you can get them non-sexually.
