I'm wondering what others make of this? Have you heard about the Italian nun who was murdered in Somalia in response to those comments? There are widespread violent protests taking place in India, Pakistan and all over the Middle East. Personally I think the Muslims who are engaging in that behaviour are validating the 'offensive elements' contained in the Popes address; the views of a fourteenth century Emperor who stated that violence is inherent to Islam.I think that is pretty clear and it would take a fool to miss it. I wonder are these people intellectually challenged or what??!! What do you all make of this? I'd be particularly interested to hear what any Muslims might have to say about it.

The Popes address on Islam..

well first off, it seems that pope Benny is a bit of a dolt. A couple weeks ago, it was Canada he leveled his guns at, now it's Islam. But you're right, there is the irony of "I'm gonna prove I'm not violent by beating up anyone whe says I am"But as we all know, the radicals of any culture are generally idiots.
-
"the radicals of any culture are generally idiots"True indeed. What did he have to say about Canada? I must have missed that in the news.
-
Maybe We'll have a war? Europe Vs Canda's awsomeness unstopable millitaty that even the States fear! and Mexican rebels!

well, i spose it cuz honnor is a big thing for islamic ppl generally. like honner killings and such, if ur wife or sister or whatever is seen in the company of another man who is not a close blood relitive or husband then the familys "honner" is at risk as she MAY have commited adaltery so the only way 2 regain ur families honner is to torture and/or kill the woman.same over reaction applys her really, the islamic cultures honner is seen by them 2 b questioned so it gets a simmerler responce.they seem 2 b very into their revenge and such
-
> I think the Muslims
"The Muslims?" How about "Some Muslims?" There are some people from any large group who are crazy.
(BTW, that was a direct qoute, but paraphrases are also put between quotation marks.)
> i spose it cuz honnor is a big thing for islamic ppl generally
It's a cultural thing, not an Islamic thing. It's a big part of the American Southern culture also.

Wait a minute...I thought I just left...where was I?

"Personally I think the Muslims who are engaging in that behaviour are validating the 'offensive elements' contained in the Popes address"This is the sentence you plucked those four words from. Note the italicised section. I see your little holiday hasn’t cured you of the urge to distort the meaning of people’s words.

"well first off, it seems that pope Benny is a bit of a dolt."..."But you're right, there is the irony of "I'm gonna prove I'm not violent by beating up anyone whe says I am"But as we all know, the radicals of any culture are generally idiots."Very true. Granted I heard only the, now infamous, sound bite of the pontiff's speech but I hope while he was talking about the violence in other faiths he reviewed the history of his own church. Christianities own history is plenty bloody with a plethora of examples of subjugation, theft, torture and murder all in the name of, and for the glorification of it's own version of God.

"Christianities own history is plenty bloody with a plethora of examples of subjugation, theft, torture and murder all in the name of, and for the glorification of it's own version of God."Completely irrelivant to modern times. The feudal system this happened under is long dead...along with everyone who participated. What is the point of dredging up the past here in this thread, please? The horse you are beating has been dead for hundreds of years...we have a live one that is currently killing people. Can you or can you not see AND acknowledge the difference?

yeah... you tell 'emit sure is comforting to know that the strife and violence in Ireland was over with centuries ago.And hey... remember way back when catholic priests used to get excommunicated for proposing that women be ordaned but only received a slap on the wrist for fucking little boys?Like you, I'm so happy to see the imaculately reformed church of modern times.

"Completely irrelivant to modern times."..."What is the point of dredging up the past here in this thread, please?"That is so narrow sighted and wrong it left me in shock.History is never irrelevant. Humanities actions and the effects of those actions on humanity change little if any over the continuum of time. Rather, only the faces, names and dates very. Furthermore, what better way to demonstrate your point and possibly open a dialogue than by saying, "I have been down the path your on and this is what it caused, ...what it inflicted, ...where it brought us." Not only that, sighting your own failings robs, those the statement is aimed at, of the opportunity to dismiss your argument on the grounds that you are a hypocrite or trying to claim the moral high ground.>>>"The feudal system this happened under is long dead...along with everyone who participated."..."The horse you are beating has been dead for hundreds of years..."Those statements are wrong.{Originally I had sighted here the experiences of my grandpa, my mother and my tribesmen and what they endured so that their sole was saved. But I have taken it out. It's to painful and evokes far to much anger on my part and I will not have their experiences picked apart or belittled. Besides, at least a few of those horses are still alive and those stories are theirs, not mine.} Believe what you like.
