Good point. In the past we have, so I don't understand why we should stop. Like I said before, there are many people who say things that I don't disagree with and that are down right ignorant. But, I will support their right to say it.

How would you like the boards improved?
-
people should be a little more considerate of how other's may feel about something. Not because of went on in the other thread or anything but. As sensitive I am about people abusing my race and gender and nationality etc nothing hurts more than abusing my religion. I care more about my relationship with Him than my race and nationality. For a while there was alot of Christian- bashing and God-mocking going around for the longest time and alot of rude things were said that were hurtful to the point it became a joke. I don't mean to be sensitive about it or anything but if I blantly said "EVOLUTION SUCKS!" or "Muhammad doesn't exist and.... eats... crap" then people would get on my case. Everyone makes a mistake but people should be more considerate about how others feel. Some people don't like when gays are bashed, when races are bashed, when countries are bashed, and ideas. It's the same thing. Just to be mindful of that
-
If you want to say "EVOLUTION SUCKS", it's OK by me.The New York State legislature actually worked on a bill to make the mocking of religion a crime (I guess it would be classified as a "hate crime"). I'm not sure what became of it, but I'm pretty sure it was unconstitional. If the discussion of religion is not out of bounds on this site, then some people are going to say that they just don't believe in a divine creator, and some religious people will be offended. I'm not sure how you can get around it.The debate has been going on for a very long time.So are you saying that it would be an improvement to disallow the discussion of religion?
-
no not at all. I don't mind people discussing religion. I'm just saying there came a time when people on this site completely degraded and mocked not just Christianity but God himself with their rude language and insults and sexual provoking. It was really disturbing and very hurtful. And it was basically a game not a debate. Who can diss this religion the best. Yet it's never done with any other religion. At least not as much
-
idk, but from what I have seen in my short time here some people make a game of ganging up on others and ripping them to shreads. These mean people need to go away! I have a sensitive heart and people like that make me sad and afraid.
-
unfortunately it's like that in the real world too. it's a cruel world, bud, and I hate living in it lolActually, because I've experienced so much mockery against my religion and race outside the net, I shouldn't even take it that seriously.
-
well, a "nice people only" policy isn't going to happen. without a heavy banning hammer. Then a2a will be a lovely forum of 11 or 12 members all complementing each other on their niceness
-
I think Islam has been pretty badly battered the past few years, with even high-level government folks implying (or explicitly saying) that it's a terrorist religion. Some Christian leaders have been even more blunt.I would hope that people who are sensitive about their religion's being mocked would be equally sensitive about other groups being mocked, such as gays and overweight people. (Is "overweight" a judgemental term?)Personally, I have less sensitivity toward majority institutions (like Christianity and "white culture") being mocked, especially when many members of those groups are wield power, exercise their influence, and are involved in the legal process, in ways that apply to everyone. The reason that not all forms of stem cell research are funded by the U.S. government, and the fact that the U.S. is witholding support for family planning efforts overseas stem from religious influence.People can get pretty opinionated about that sort of thing, and I don't think that discussing it frankly is a detriment to the Web site. But people will sometimes say things that others will find offensive.
-
Even if some people find some discussions to be offensive, can't they still have their medical and relationship questions answered?
A.W.> I agree that the remark about your grandfather was insensitive and kind of nasty. But sometimes people get up on the wrong side of the bed, or have a bad day, and post things that they might not if they spent a bit more time thinking before hitting the "post" button.
-
you guys are pretty much warping things now. not exactly getting what I'm saying. Unsupervised, I already said I don't care if people discuss religion and what not but there has been more Christianity bashing than gay or race bashing. And it had been really bad on here to the point I didn't look anymore. I won't even mention who was invovled for fear of starting something.Steve, outside this computer it's a total different story. I'm not ashamed of my Christianity or God but I'm ashamed of so called "Christians" who aren't practicing what they preach in which, giving all Christians a bad name. Bad mouthing Islamic religion is just as bad as bad mouthing Christianity, Scientology, evolution etc. IMO. I was just responding to Inlegible's request of how to change the boards and such. I didn't want to get deep into I just wanted to hint that people should be a bit more considerate of what they say and how it can effect certain people. If they don't like Christans, God, Christianity whatever that's fine. Say whatever but there's a certain degree that's just too far.
-
So you're suggesting that moderators step in when things get out of hand (however that's determined)?
-
not when you make it sound like a low minimum 24 hour job lol. I guess only if it gets out of hand. like how they did for that attack on gays not too long ago. or when threads go way off topic or something. that might keep people around longer
-
>Even if some people find some discussions to be offensive, can't they still have their medical and relationship questions answered?
I think that would be the point, wouldn't it?
there's just not much point in filling this thread up with "I wish people were nice" and "I was offended when..."
People go over the top, including Mods, including me.
So let's keep the discussion to the tangebles. My question is, though, are the admins empowered to make any major changes that may result from these discussions?
-
oh how nice of you thanks. I should have known better anyway. forget it. if I was being too "sappy" for you I can take a hint thank you very much :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. I'll leave it alone now.
-
So let's keep the discussion to the tangebles.Yeah, that's what I'm saying.> My question is, though, are the admins empowered to make any major changes that may result from these discussions?I suppose they can do whatever the good doctor from New England agrees to if it's anything major, or just do it if it's something minor (like adding a parenting forum).

I'd just like to second CR125's suggestions about an arts section and a spellcheck. An arts section would really interest me and a compulsory spellcheck function would be an absolute Godsend on this site!
-
"Yet it's never done with any other religion. At least not as much"Yep. Even when another religion and its leaders are behind suicide bombings, terrorism and beheadings of live people, Christianity takes the brunt of the mocking. I don't like it, but it's OK. The Bible said it would be like this in the end-times. It just means some of us will be going home before too long.
-
spell check is a god send for us dyslexics. However, I'm sure it would end up being an American spell check, forcing us to mispell colour and neighbour and metre etc.
I'm not too sure that a spell check is possible in this format anyway. I have yet to see one.
Might work to filter out all the IM lingo and 1337 5p3@k though :smile:In reply to:
It just means some of us will be going home before too long.
bye... have a nice trip.
