i love reading, but i have a very short attention span...does anyone else get like this? I read some of clockwork orange, then lost interest, started reading fear and loathing in las vegas, and im losing interest in that...and it might be coincidence but it seems like im only reading books which i first see in movie form...i dunno...just a thought. Does anyone else find it hard to focus when theyre reading a novel?

Does anyone else find it hard to focus when theyre reading a novel? Yes, until I get into it. That can take a couple of chapters.Try The Davinci Code. It was a fun read, and has very short chapters.

See I red them both long before I saw a movie. it was maybe a week when I read clockwork, since I knew there was a movie, I rented it soon afterward so I could see it. Fear and Loathing... Ima huge hunter fan, and have been reading his works since around 1984 when my oldest brother leant me a book of his, "The Great Shark Hunt" since then Iv been devouring all of his works several times over and nearly shit myself with joy when I heard ther would be amovie of F&L. Iv always been a reader, I still read alot, always for pleasure. If you like fear and loathing I suggest you pick up any of hunters other works, all short storys, reprints of articles he wrote for magazines, letters back and forth from him and his correspondants. pick up some of Stephen Kings books, specifically skeleton crew, four past midnight, everythings eventual... any of his short storys collections, they start off fast and its easy to finish an book that is just short storys and novelas. Maybe yuor problem is that your reading shit that doeesnt really interest you?some of the books steve has mentioned in other posts Id never consider reading because Id bored to fucking tears, but its easy for me to devour a book of 3000 pages if its something I enjoy. I read mostly horror and true stories of mountaineering, anything on everest, alot of research about the various places Iv been to climb, I read up on Mt Hood, and Granite Peak and Mt Raineer for a few months before I actually made the trip to climb them. I read alot of tourist shit on the back country too, places to go ya know? pick em out in the winter and visit em in the summer. Iv found several isolated lakes and trails to hike and fish with no other people around sometimes for days before Ill see anyone.Reading is one of my great joys, all I can tell you is that you have to decide what it is you like to read, pick something that interests you. I might think for you that ya should pick one up called "lets get it on"its a basic biographie of Mills Lane, or "By George" the biaography of Big George Foreman. Iv got a few on Ali in my collection, each of them was a good read, I own the Foreman book, I havent gotten around to reading it yet though so I cant say if its any good or not. I once read alot of Sci-Fi, I loved Micheal Moorecocks elric sries, and the jewel in teh skulls, fred saberhagens book of swords, roger zelzanys chronicals of amber, and a series by francis harper? maybe it was francis farmer? I think thats right, it started with "To Our Scatterd Bodies Go" about everyone on earth being stored once they were dead by a race that was what turned out to be god. They took all of the people to ever have lived and stuck them back on earth at the dawn of time to see what happened when they all got together and followed true historical figures. It wa followed by "The fabulous River Boat" and was more of the same, jsut continuations of the first story. I think there were 4 or 5 books in that series. My will be wife reads true crime, I have 3 book shelfs full of her books, all case by case studies of true serial killers.Youll never get into reading if you dont find what it si you LIKE to read.so long as I read things that I like, I get into them rather quikly and cant put them down.

Also, there's a lot of very high quality and engaging science fiction. I'm not a huge SciFi fan, but some of it was a great read. Arthur C. Clarke, for instance. The movie 2001: A Space Odyssey didn't make a hell of a lot of sense until I read the book.

Id never knock what you read, just pointing out that nt every book is for everyone.Im sure there are people that hate t shit I read, and I hate the shit my will be wife reads. besides to knock what it is you like means Id have to readit first, and I cant bring myself to do it, I just can not get into it.

There is always Harry Potter!

Pretty much anything is worth a shot. If you don't try, you'll never know if you might have liked it. If it still sucks after half an hour, at least you've given it a go.
-
Well I'm pretty sure that I won't like having my head cut off with a rusty blade, but I'm not going to try it to find out for sure.

I can read without losing interest... But if an English teacher hands me a book and tells me I have to read it, then it becomes a chore and I lose focus very easily.
-
I guarantee you that you will not die if you read any particular book. We all know about prejudice and prejudging. If I'm wrong, you can sue me.
