Well the problem with Gravity is that it seems to be probably the most important part of our universe but its weaker than the other 3 forces of nature, Electromagnetic and the Strong and Weak Nuclear forces. If you have a pen or a small object on your desk, lift it up now. With almost no effort at all, you have overcome the gravitational pull of an entire planet. Even though this is partially explained by relative mass, its still incredibly weak and we are having a lot of trouble trying to tie it in with the other forces. Then string theory comes along. String theory suggests that Gravitons, 11 dimensional strings, are in a closed loop that allows them to escape our universe (or membrane as their known in string theory) and travel into other universes.

I hate to stir anything more up but I can't resis

Well what about black holes? Quasars? Their gravity bends light. That's not weak. Quasars are incredibly strong. Stronger than almost anything.

Christianity as a way of living and viewing the world (I presume this is what you're talking about) is something different and its a bit selfish of you to call it Christianity. Loving thy neighbour and forgiving people is not exclusively Christian. You have turned Christianity into an adjective. You are still missing it. You are setting up a false choice with only two options: Christianity is a religion, or Christianity is loving your neighbor and forgiving. I'm saying it's neither of those things. Christianity is following Christ. Accepting that he is the Son of God and submitting your life to him. That is not covered by either of your choices. It is way different from just being loving and forgiving (which I agree that non-Christians are capable of as well.) Quote:I'm gonna take this whole section in one go. Indeed the laws were written by the Jews, they are Jewish laws. But Christians did not renounce the laws, you said yourself that Christ came to earth to fulfil the laws. My quote from Matthew 5:18 was meant to highlight this, Jesus said himself that all the laws must still be followed. So Christians are still subject to the laws and must follow them. You're missing the whole point of the Gospels. Christians are not under the law. We are under grace. The New Testament is full of stories of Jesus "breaking" Mosaic law and showing a better way. He healed on the Sabbath. He spoke to women...PROSTITUTES...when he went into a Gentile area. He argued incessantly with the Pharisees and called them out for the pharisitical ways. The whole point of the law is that it cannot be kept. Period. That's why the Gospel story of the perfect, blameless Son of God taking the penalty for our sins is such a huge deal for us who believe. We could never live up to the standards of the law, or of God's holiness. So Jesus fulfilled the law by his life, death, and resurrection. Quote:As for the story of the Pharisees, it confuses me slightly. Jesus seems to mess everything up for me. It was the law of God that the woman should be stoned to death, she broke one of the 10 commandments. I understand that Jesus was teaching the people of forgiveness but by not killing her, did the Pharisees not break God's law as well? Were they forgiven also for not stoning her to death? I'm confused now... They were not judged for not stoning her to death. They were attempting to continue to follow the law of Moses, even after Jesus came and said "No more. It ain't working. Here's a better way." They were arrogant "holy" men who wanted to hold people to impossible external standards while their own hearts were disgusting. Jesus pointed out their hypocrisy in this story. And Jesus always did a great job of confusing people. That whole using the stupid things of the world to confuse the wise...cool.(I hope this didn't come across as preachy. I was just trying to answer your questions in the best way I know how.)

Black holes are strong because there is incredibly large amounts of mass compacted into a very small volume. Most of the energy in quasars is electromagnetic, their light can be seen almost evenly through the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Its believed that Quasars don't actually bend light, this is an effect of the Super Massive Black Hole that it surrounds.

Could you give me a rough synopsis of how we came to be in your eyes?
Because I'm sort of confused with all these ideas you've been throwing at me.

Maybe I'm taking what you said a tad too literal, but does that not ruin God's whole infallibility thing? His first rules turned out to be crap so he came up with new ones.

we came from this soup.. rock thing...bang man bang!

What do you mean? A brief run through of the history of the universe or the story of my parents getting drunk on the last day of Christmas and making babies on the sofa?

But the big question is, what flavour was the soup??
-
lmao at both you and abi. it was chicken noodle. the broth slowly churned and churned for billions of years and then one day the materials in the broth polymerized to form a noodle. the noodle was sad and cry a lot. his tears were made of salt. over time the noodles dna and the salt polymerized and formed chicken. then God came along and drank the soup up and destroyed any remaining evidence and then formed everything as we see it today. but yeah tell me how everything we see including how humans evolved and all that in rough detail and then over time we can get more specific in the details.

Tomato soup. duh!

Basically I'm gonna answer this in the best way I can think of. I've linked to these videos before but they are very educational and they explain everything really well.

However he forgot to mention that the experiments in the 60s left out oxygen which would've shut down any polymerization.

In the primitive atmosphere there wouldn't have been any molecular oxygen. The atmosphere would have been chemically reducing. That changed when photosynthesis started.
-
I'm just curious Scotty. Where did you copy that from? It's a pretty good list of logical fallacies.

There's no reference to the original evidence. There are what appear to be references, but they only refer to (mostly like-minded) books, not original research. In areas where I have more knowledge, I find the author is lacking. The DNA/protein issue is dead now - it's quite well settled that RNA would have come first. Ribose doesn't inhibit RNA synthesis and phosphorus isn't rare. RNA doesn't self-replicate in modern biological cells but chemically it is no more difficult than DNA self-replication.The mathematics of protein mutation is based on the assumptions that a particular whole chain has to be formed randomly all at once, whereas it would be derived from smaller chains; and that nothing else works until it is perfect, whereas in practice very many changes still produce a working chain. The argument from complexity assumes there were no earlier simpler stages that have not survived. There's no reason to assume that. The statement "information scientists have shown that informational codes do not arise from noise or by chance, but only from intelligence" is simply false.

I just can't get myself to get into the mindset of thinking I came from a puddle of shit on a molten rock. I'd much rather think that God created my species in a perfect time period and promised me eternal life if I accepted him and would bring me great joys and pleasures in life once I accepted him.
-
There's nothing wrong with a bit of humility. If you consider that the offer of eternal life is made to what are not far off puddles of shit, it makes it all the more awe-inspiring. The Psalmist said "What is man that you care for him?"
-
so technically it's not an insult when someone says "you're dumb as a rock!" lol because we seem to have come from rocks.
