This is beyond ridiculous..

I think he means us as in all of us discussing this topic. And he does have a right to challenge your views. Atheism is just as much a religion, or a belief system as Catholicism, Baptist, or Muslim. And he speaks for many many people, not just himself. And parents have the responsibility to raise their kids to become a good part of society, not how they see fit. When parents who are unfit parents try to raise kids, that's why the kids a put into better families. And when you say this, Originally Posted By: thor I'll do you one better. As far as I know, there are many many many interpretations of the bible, and church teaches that it's not whether you necessarily believe what the church says, but that you believe in some way shape or form.

Thor, do you believe there are any circumstances whatever in which children should be taken from their parents? There have been, and still are, small communities of very like-minded people. Most communities have always included people of disparate beliefs and mindsets - that is part of living in a normal community. I'd like to know at what date you think "the community was of like-mind" and around what date "liberals and their emotionally motivated, "void of logic" agenda began to gather steam".
-
Yes...there are certainly times in which kids should be taken away.As for the rest, the turning point was somewhere between the late 50's and the early 70's.

A liberal mindset? You cannot even face the possibility that you're wrong, can you? You can't even consider it. Your self-righteous, know-it-all attitude does not count as an argument. As a person, I have every right to challenge your beliefs as they have the strong possibility of warping the minds of children. Plus, as a person, I have the right to express my opinion on any matter, such as childhood indoctrination. If you used my thought process, you would argue your point logically and defend your position rationally, but you don't. You avoid questions, you state your unsupported opinions as facts, you ridicule and undermine the people with whom you are discussing. You dismiss logical arguments made by others and pretend that because they don't fit with your narrow world view then they must be delusional. But it is you who are delusional, you think the world works exactly how you want it to work. You think that your god holds the exact same prejudices that you have. You think that you have more knowledge of how the world works than hundreds of thousands of the most well trained, learned scientists. You are a fool. You must see that if you were taught that the story of Jesus was just a bedtime story and that Jack and the Beanstalk was holy doctrine, you would be here arguing the divinity of the golden goose. Actually no you wouldn't, because time and time again you fail to present any real argument.I speak for anyone who has had to suffer people like you in their lives, people whose education was warped and health threatened by the teaching of ignorant fundamentalists who put the words of a poorly written, historically false, contradictory book before the lives of fellow humans. And until you can act as a decent human being, with love and compassion for everyone, with respect for the knowledge that others have and you do not, with the common decency to even consider that your unfounded beliefs are wrong, I shall challenge you and defend the rights of those that you oppress with your ridiculous dogma.

I am an Agnostic Atheist, meaning that I don't believe that there is no god. I simply don't follow the belief that there is one. A Gnostic Atheist knows that there is no god, and I find this position to be as ridiculous as a Gnostic Theist who knows that there is a god.Atheism is not a religion, just like being a non-racist is not a prejudice.

Ok, then do. Instead of just posting a snide remark, please argue your point. Unless you can back up what you say, your unfounded views will continue to be ignored. So put up or shut up.
Oh, and great job ignoring my post previous to that one. It was quite a display of burying your head in the sand.

Fair enough. I just re-read my post and I realised that I came off really bitchy - so, I'm sorry about that.

Quote:In my country a new law was annouced for rapists found guilty.......death sentence--'to be hanged till death' What country is this?

No, not at all. I was just making sure that you, or anyone else that reads this, can understand where I was coming from.

Saya may not wish to say particularly, but Saya is not in a Western country.

So you think that parents should be allowed to teach their children to be racist, assholes, etc.? They have the right to raise their children as they see fit, right?

That's exactly right...but don't cry in your wheaties too soon. It also includes the right to teach your children that there is no God, and that agreeing with the general populace is more important than seeking the truth. After all, there are character traits far more damaging to a person or society than being a racist or an asshole. Especially when definitions of those traits are made by one.

When what one teaches begins to infringe upon the rights of others, like racism, then the community and government have the responsibility to intervene.By the way, most of your viewpoints are simply agreeing with what other Christians have said to be true; you may think you are seeking truth, but you're only seeking what coincides with your religion (or whatever you are told coincides with your religion). Oh, you know what? Let's look at an example. Do you also agree that parents should be allowed to show their children porn of any form? Your previous posts seem to indicate no.Eh, whatever, I don't feel like debating anything here; it doesn't get anywhere like it does at other forums.

Your previous posts seem to indicate no.I think they should be allowed to...but I also think it irresponsible and extremely stupid, if they care about their children.I will fight for your right to say and do stupid things, as long as they don't infringe upon the rights of others. But I can still think they're stupid things to say or do. See how that works?

Why do you think we don't get our 1st amendment rights in school? Yeah, because it's crowded, and something you say may offend someone else, but so is a mall, but we have them there?

This contradicts what you just said. In this post, you say that certain freedoms must be curtailed (the freedom to sell/watch/whatever the rape video game mentioned at the beginning of the thread), but now you say parents should be allowed to show their children porn of any form. The rape video game is a form of porn. -
I have to come to find this to be normal of thor.

The rape video game is a form of porn. That ever-elusive difference is that one occurs in the public, outside of the home...the other, inside the home. It is the responsibility of government to protect the people and public at large...but stay out of their private lives. I honestly don't understand why that concept is so difficult for some people.
