So has anyone had the Swine Flu or know of someone who has had it?Yeah sure the Swine Flu is just another flu and someone here is sure to poo-poo it as an overreaction blahh blah blah.I'm pretty sure I have it. I had rough feeling in the middle of my chest on Monday morning but felt fine the whole day. About 3PM that day, I got slammed out of the blue. Fever (102), bad cough (extremely nasty smelling phlegm.. Ughhh), body aches, fatigue... I couldn't shake the fever for 2 days straight. Went to the doctor on Wednesday and he pretty much blew me off. Tylenol, Motrin and fluids see ya later. I asked him if it was possibly Swine flu and he said "Yeah it's possible".Friday I was feeling great. Still a bad bad cough but no fever at all. Took a nap late that afternoon and woke up with 102 again. Shit.. I did the old wives remedy by having my wife wrap me up in towels and layers of blankets.. I layed there for over an hour and sweated the heck out of my body. The towels were soaked. Took a cool shower and felt much better that evening.. No fever this morning. Hopefully this is the end of it although I'm sure the cough will linger for a while. My wife is now sick with the same although less intense symptoms. It'll be interesting to see how this flu pans out as the flu season starts. Although it's just a flu and I've had the flu many times before.. I've never been as sick like this one.Keep your hands washed and don't touch your face with unwashed hands!!!

Swine Flu (H1N1)

I haven't/don't know of anyone with it. But that's odd that your doctor didn't react more than he did, I thought that WHO, or whoever, was still recommending hospital visits for flu symptoms. Huh....In any case, if it get's as bad in your wife, or you get it again, I wouldn't hesitate to head to the ER, you don't want to mess with that if you can help it, you know? And even with it being just another flu, it's nothing to sneeze at, people HAVE died from it, and as much as it should be poo-pooed, I still don't, not yet anyway. Once vaccines are more common, or even in, then I'll start to dismiss it.Heh heh...sneeze at...

Yeah, I was kind of surprised by his attitude.. I think this doctor I have is a ass.. I've been meaning to switch doctors for a while.
His attitude was that it's the flu like any other flu. He said, if it gets worse, come back. I asked about TamiFlu and he said it's in very short supply.. available for pregnant women, children and those with respiratory illnesses and you can only get it through the hospital.
-
Yeah, he sounds like it.The fact that TamiFlu is short is no surprise, it's the best medicene we have against that strain for the time being...but I wonder if you DO show signs of it, if the hospitals will give it to you?

Friend of mine went to baltimore to work for the summer, she came back with this particular 'swine' flu. Though, apparently, she was lucky in that doctors told her iy was a very mild version and could have been buckets worse. I hope whatever it is you had/have,sdp, turns out all right.
-
I'm going to say no unless you fall into one of thier categories. But I'm sure policies vary, so who knows. Plus I think it's supposed to be given within 24-48 hours of symptoms.
-
i was just thinking there was a time range and its within 48 hours or for prevention in case youve come in contact with an infected individual
-
Right, that makes sense, I guess...Maybe Roche needs to STEP. IT. UP! lol.
-
many docs are trying to avoid using tamiflu where possible as there has already been a case of tamiflu resistant H1N1

I agree, Rad. In the 1918 flu pandemic the first wave was relatively mild, but a second wave five months later was very virulent and deadly. Those who got it in the first wave had immunity from the second. It's always possible it might be similar this time. Swine flu here has been fairly mild and common; some of my daughter's schoolfriends have had it.

My lil brother and I had the Swine Flu back in May for like... a day. I slept in his room up playing video games and watching movies. Either he got it from me or I got it from him. But the next morning we woke up feeling like death. The fever was torture. It was like...95 degrees out and we had on winter coats and were still cold. Bad throat congestion. Body ached... it was bad. The worst part was the headache. MASSIVE HEADACHE. I couldn't open my eyes or move my head too fast without feeling like I was being hit with a sledgehammer. At the time we didn't know we had the swine. We were on our way to D.C. to see my older bro graduate from Howard so we were like "we don't got time to be sick" lol. We just slept for the entire 4 hour ride snuggled up and I guess you could say we sweat out the flu? We felt better when we got to D.C. and gradually it went away. Didn't know it was the swine till we went to the doctor a couple weeks later.
-
Haha..Sorry yes I'm fine. After sweating out the fever on Friday night, I was doing well on Saturday.Sunday I was really down though. IDK if it was some short term depression from being cooped up for a week or if I was just physically drained.Anyways I'm back at work today and I'm going to cough on everyone mocking me that I was just being a pussy over a common cold.
-
Thanks, Yeah I'm fine although it's been 2 weeks since the start of the flu, I still have coughing fits that drive me crazy.. But it's fading out slowly.
-
And there will be a lot more.. pretty hard to avoid it at this point as the flu season starts taking hold.

Hope you get better soon.. I was stuck at 39°C for over 3 days straight. I'm still coughing after 3 weeks.
