Do you think we'll ever have a female president ever? It seems like we never will? I haven't heard of any country that has or had a female president. Is there some specific reason why?

Female President?
-
I thought Hillary was president. Hmmm...I guess I shouldn't eat a whole chocolate cake before bed.
How come a Moslem country, a Hindu country, a Jewish contry, a fish 'n' chips country, and a wine and cheese country have all had female prime ministers, but the U.S. hasn't had a female leader? Even Canada had one for a few months.
[Answer key: Bhutto, Ghandi, Meïr, Thatcher, Cresson, , Campbell]

Ireland has a female president now, and the one before her, Mary Robinson (1990-1997), was a very much respected President. The Philippines has a female president now (though she is in trouble), and again she is the second female president. The current Presidents of Finland, Latvia and Sri Lanka are also female. The first female president was apparently appointed in Mongolia in 1953.There are many countries where the most powerful politician is the Prime Minister, and there have been many female Prime Ministers. Golda Meïr of Israel (1969-1974), Indira Ghandi of India (1966-1977 and 1980-1984) and Margaret Thatcher of Britain (1979-1990) come immediately to mind as female Prime Ministers who made a bigger than usual mark. Then of course as heads of state queens regnant go back a long way indeed.Lists of Women State leaders

Oh ok. I just don't know why we don't have any for America yet.
-
you don't know shit about shit.We had Kim as priminister for a short while. Nothing to do with gender, she wasn't the right person for the job.Hillary Clinton will be the next president of the USA.
-
I> Meïr...Ghandi...Thatcher
Dat's what I said!
J> Oh ok. I just don't know why we don't have any for America yet.
America was also late in the game in banning slavery, allowing women to vote, and letting blacks use "white" toilets and water fountains.
It's always amusing when Americans, especially academics, explain why things are the way they are in the U.S., as if they're universal truths. Why a woman would not make a good leader. Why it would be bad for blacks to sit at a white lunch counter or in the front of a bus. Why a single-payer (socialized) health care system couldn't possibly function. All this while those things are happening very successfully in other parts of the world.

**we may have a female figurehead in the queen, but she doesn't do much! the people that make the decisions are mostly men in parliament.
As for our female prime minister, maggie thatcher, i hope if you get a female president she doesn't fuck up your country like maggie did to ours. ** -
yeah i agree, tho saying that, she was the first woman in that kinda position over here, and now people are scared of a woman being in charge
-
for all her short commings, admittedly Britton was languashing under a stagnant labour government for too long. It got to the point that you couldn't take a dump without a vote and a shop-steward present.
-
I kind of agree with you. i think if Hillary decides to run for office, I think she'll win hands down. I know I'd vote for her!
-
Mainly because Bill will be back...We kind of did have a black president.
-
Condi Rice has been asked repeatedly if she would seek the Rep nomiation. She claims no interest.Rice vs Clinton. Good god, that would be the pollitical circus of the century. Can you imagine the "good 'ol boys" trying to decide between a black woman and a liberal woman!AWSOME!!
-
I'd be shocked if you did vote for Rice, especially if it was just because she's black.hehehehe you said "get into her" hehehe
-
\> Condi Rice has been asked repeatedly if she would seek the Rep nomiation. She claims no interest.
Politics aside, I don't think she'd be a good candidate. She comes across as a poorly-informed academic. Obviously you can get elected even if you seem poorly-informed, but in the U.S., an academic doesn't have a prayer. At least not since the days of Woodrow Wilson, back when the ladies got the vote. -
as if we are all that gullible and stupid just to vote for someone b/c of their race. I thought that was hallmark of the republican party.
-
As Ineligible said, the last two Irish presidents were women, and there was once a female Pope! They only found out she was a she when she got herself pregnant.
-
the pope got herself pregnant?
Oh you catholics and your miracles! There have been a couple of women Free Masons under certain circumstances
-
It won't and can't happen. How would a female deal with a world crisis? She would be afraid to use force and would probably start crying when the media criticized her, feminists would love it but the presidency is a man's job. Black, hispanic, Jews, etc, they could all make great presidents, as long as they were men.
-
You're talking about the Pope John/Joan thing that took place in like 800 A.D., there's really no factual basis of that.
