As for who is "put upon" more, I think it depends where you are geographically these days as much as anything else. Wow. I don't know what you base your opinion on, but I doubt it's from conversations with black people. Blacks aren't being lynched willy-nilly these days, but for most black people who interact with society at large, the color of their skin is an issue. A much bigger issues than it is for white men. There may be cases where white men are treated unfairly in employment, and I'm not condoning it, but it's on a much smaller scale than what black people have to deal with. In some locales, black drivers still get routinely pulled over by police for no particular reason, other than for the color of their skin. (It's the "You don't belong here" attitude.)I've never gotten that vibe while spending time in black neighborhoods in Miami. My friend thinks it's because everyone thinks I'm a drug gangster but I think he's kidding. I'm not saying it's not possible (I've been called a cracker), but it's a lot less common than the reverse.I don't think you are able to empathize.

Are you a Canadian citizen? How are you discriminated against?
The essay you cited says that the U.S. should toss out the Mexicans and keep them out. Should Canada do the same thing to their immigrants?
-
You're not an immigrant so you don't know.If you have an accent, you barely get hired. I got fired from my job for the reason. I complained yet they didn't lissten. Even in school!
-
If that's true, that's very bad.> I got fired from my job for the reason. Then why did they hire you in the first place if that's their prejudice? You are experiencing the prejudice against people who are different than the majority group, or the in-group. People are discriminated against for any number of reasons, an accent being among them. It would be tougher if it were over skin color, though. At least you can work on your accent.> I remember the good old days of being a majority...Didn't you say they discriminated against Jews where you came from? Someone's balls always have to be in the vise.
-
Its not only black people who get discrimnated against. When i went to Iowa and Chicago, i didn't notice anything. Theres barely black people in Canada.
Our Immigration Officer noticed the problem a looong time ago but our government was way too busy taking care of the natives and black community in toronto to take care of it yet. He sent some mail to new and old immigrants a while ago...
You cannot disagree that white people have experienced discrimination and Racism.
-
You cannot disagree that white people have experienced discrimination and Racism. No, but I can say that blacks have and continue to suffer a lot more discrimination than whites do. There are some things that affect all racial and ethnic groups, such as an accent or a physical disability.
-
Thats true. If we take out the Slavery then i think Native people suffered more. All the races suffered, why cant we unite and be like United Kingdom Jr.

I don't think people should ever forget what race they are. How could they? Even if everyone taught their kids to forget race, the kids are still going to know that he has x color of skin, and that person has y color of skin. They are different.I think we should accept other people's races, not forget them.
-
Very well put Im proud to be human. Im just glad my family wasnt in America to take part of the slave movement. I hate the fact that blacks were and still are treated less equal. I guess that partly because my best friend is black.
-
::COUGH:: excuse you lol. Yes it does matter. If your mother is dark and father is dark but you're extremely light then you are black and should not be considered white :stuck\_out\_tongue\_winking\_eye:

In reply to:I don't think people should ever forget what race they are. How could they? Even if everyone taught their kids to forget race, the kids are still going to know that he has x color of skin, and that person has y color of skin. They are different.I think we should accept other people's races, not forget them.I'm not even sure how meaningful race is. You can find people of other races who are genetically closer to you than some members of your own race. If you're talking about skin color, then you're talking about a superficial characteristic. Dogs don't seem to care about the color of other dogs' fur. Small children don't care about the color of other children's skin. They learn to care from their culture; people of different skin colors tended to be from particular areas. Now in most parts of the world people with different skin colors are mixing together. America is supposed to be a big melting pot. Concern about what skin color you are and they are is a tribal thing, and not at all useful. What is the difference between accepting someone of a different skin color, and not caring about that person's skin color?

I wrote a long post, explaining what I meant. Then I decided it made no sense, and I deleted it, because I don't even know what I mean. So I retract what I said earlier, too.
