Well ok, first off a bit of background information.5'10-11, 235 lbs, took tae kwon doe partially, trained my fighting at a small kick boxing gym for a year.typically I street fight, i've faught my whole life, (true story) as a baby, i was sitting next to another kid during a baby sitting session, the other kid who was about 2 took my bottle, i grab my rattle and hit him in his nose and made him bleed. so i've litterally been fighting since in diapers.the farthest back fight i can remember was in preschool when another kid took the girl i was dancing with during a school dance, and when i asked for her back, he said no, stick his toungue out and i punched him.after that i began fighting more and more and more, after bangin for almost two years, i realized that fighting wasnt good, and that what i was doing was just hurting people. i now want to train myself, and discipline my body, in the forms of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)while bangin i used to get payed to fight, as well as fought for my crew, since i was the biggest and had the most experience fighting... i fought for money about 3-4 times a week, and fought outside of that about 10-15 times a week...i can throw really hard punching combinations, and my kicks will definitely break some bones... but i want to discipline myself...now enough background, and story, i need advice...any home tips on how to train myself, some goals that i wanna achieve are*Harder firmer knuckles, *stronger tighter core muscles,*stronger punches stronger kicksable to take stronger stomach and face punchesas well as learn how to control my punches, force, anger, and kicks.so far this is what my workout is consisting of.every day, punching a thick african american literature hardcover book (only thing i could think of atm)350 times. Mid kicking the book 100 timesLow kicking it 75high kicking it 85my cousin is going to be working out with me as well, his workout is lighter than mine tho, cause of his size.punching, 100mid kick 50low kick 25high kick 35and after he's done he's going to punch my stomach 300 times...along with the kicking and punching exercise im going to be doing yoga, push up's and sit up's as well as endurance training...basically im asking what else can i do to get myself to achieve these goals?

I want to discipline my fighting.

I've heard that for power and speed you want to push the weights you lift rapidly, then lower them slowly. As in when doing bench press, you want to push the bar up as quickly and aggressively as possible.I'm guessing here, but for strong, power and, most importantly, fast punches you want to do your chest, shoulders and tricep workouts with that speed and aggression. Same for your leg workouts. For your back, core and biceps however I'd imagine you'd do heavy slow movements, slow as in 3 seconds up, 3 seconds down (this means it takes 3 seconds for the weight to make the entire movement, not just up quickly, then hold the weight for 3 seconds). This will give your a very, very strong back and grip, which will be excellent for wrestling. Plus your guns will be huge and intimidating. For strong core muscles, hang upside down from a bar and lift your head above your knees. Hold a weight to your chest, and eventually behind your head to make it even more difficult. There are lots of other ways to build core muscles, but this (besides squats) is one of the most effective. As for the rest, I don't really know. I had a few mates who used to do Muay Thai and they used to hold a cushion to their chest and flex whilst the other hit it. Gradually getting harder and harder till they couldn't handle it. They also apparently (they only told me) used to kick wooden posts with their shins then roll a rolling pin over their soft bruised shins to push the nerves away. Strengthening both their shin bones and removing any painful nerve endings. One thing I do know about MMA from a doco I watched is you need insane endurance, so my other advice would be to do those drills Helms posted a while back everyday. I reposted them again recently as we lost Helm's posts.Good luck anyway.

thanks alot for the advice its wonderful!!! theres alot of stuff in there that i hadnt thought about/taken into consideration before, and i will be shure to do them all... once i get my camera back, imma start taking day by day photo's, and make a collage of a 6 month period... maybe ill make a small post for myself, and post the pictures there so you guys can point out any areas that i might needa up my workout around...

Id have to disagree. Now I dont fight MMA, I fight because I have to and it used to be just for fun.I boxed amature for a bit, till I got a life time ban on my boxing license due to brain damage. Im 5 11, and normally around 150 to 165 lbs.I break bones every time I hit people, jaws snap easy, so do noses, a heel to the side of a knee cap smashed the fucking thing, Im not big but when I hit people they know it.a punch starts in the leg and proper position of the body and the foot and the turn and the shoulder snap. size doesnt mean shit in a fight if you know how to fight, and where and how to hit to do massive amounts of damage.I used to take cash fights once a week, 3 or 4 fights in a night, in a closed parking garage for a shut down mall in Ogden. I didnt lose very god damned often and I put people down that had over 100 lbs on me.My weights dont build size, more about stamina. spend 5 minutes going all out on a 150 lbs heavy bag and tell me how ya feel.it nearly kills you, most people cant do more than about 1 minute before they have to stop, breathless and worn.I dont do fights for cash any more, nor for fun. Im too fucking old, it hurts me too much for too long to hit someone these days and takes weeks to heal up. If your young enough to turn it into a career and make a living fucking go for it.Iv never lost my lust for blood and a bit of the old ultraviolence, I jsut lost the ability to be ready to go again in an hour or at the worst in a day.when you hit someone right it jars every bone in your fucking body, my joints hurt daily, my back is fucked, my neck is shit, broken fingers nad knuckles and wrists and the bones in the back of my hand make for huge fists with protruding knuckles that bust open peooples faces every time I hit them, but hte fun of it all is gone and Ill pay for it all for the rest of my life. Now i still fihgt understand, I wont back down, I refuse to be treated like shit. but you have to wonder if its really all worth it.Iv been stabbed 2 times, shot once, woken up in an ambulance more times than I can count, 11 different ribs broken several times over, 2 skull fractures a a few broken jaws, my front top teeth are fake, and that happened in a sanctioned bout with a mouth piece in.Im a retired criminal now, no more of the shit I used to do, no more fights for cash or putting people in the hospital to make some money because who ever wanted it done couldnt do it but had the cash, no more running drugs, no more bars, all that shits behind me.IF your gonna do it keep in matches, and for fuck sakes for legal reasons if your going to go pro especially dont take a fight on the street!Hire a trainer. a real one, not some asshole that thinks he knows what hes doing, but someone involved in the sport, wear all the gear, do the work outs and listen to the TRAINER.dont make up your own routines, and remember that getting to big is a disadvantage not an advantage. Many people that thought they would beat my ass because of their size compared to mine spent some time in an ER having stitches and a jaw wired shut then a visit to the dentist to get some nice ceramic teeth put in.

Quote: iv been stabbed 2 times, shot once, woken up in an ambulance more times than I can count, 11 different ribs broken several times over, 2 skull fractures a a few broken jaws, my front top teeth are fake, and that happened in a sanctioned bout with a mouth piece in. wow nice list lol, while reading your post i couldnt help but see so many similarities between us... ironically, we've had our fair share of fights, and ironically both have two completely different opinions about almost EVERYTHING... but we do share a similar past, i never really got hit in the mouth, so i still got all my teeth there...i too was payed to fight, juss maybe more frequently? im not shure about u or ur frequency...as for your list, personally i've fractured my hands/knuckles L:18 times, R:27, had 7 diferrent ribs broken, 4 of which were done twice, my skull fractured once, my jaw fully dislocated/dislodged once, popped out 3 times. but as you are, i was done with all that shit, the dealin, hustlin, fightin, and friends getting killed... during difficult financial times like the ones im facing atm, i do wish that i could go back sometimes and have a couple more fights, (350 average each isnt too bad) but i dont, and in all honesty, i didnt sleep not one minute last night, and im literally falling asleep, my body cant be up for over 24 hrs with so much muscle/weight... ill finish this up later...

thats a short list, VI had my hands and fingers broken so many times that I lost count, toes, my left shin, ankles, dislocated shoulders. My chiropractor shit when he saw my xrays. He had not seen so much damage in a single person that handt been in a major car wreck or a professional boxer, and none of those cases he saw or studied were able to walk and function. I still live a pretty normal life aside form the knee brace I wear when I play ball or backpack or run. Its just the fucking constant pain.
I wasnt encouraging you to fight, I was simply stating that if your going to do it, seek advice and help of a qualified trainer, and dont skip on gear, mouth pieces ( the surgery I had to permanently implant the fake teeth into my upper jaw fucking hurt for 6 weeks, but my teeth now will survive a fire of nearly any heat, made from the same shit the ceramic tiles on the space shuttle are made from. it also cost me 2 grand after the fucking insurance paid their share)
sooner or later youll get cracked in the mouth, I had my mouth guard in and the guy that hit me had on boxing gloves. it will happen, ask any pro boxer, you think those pretty smiles some have are real?
Fighting takes its toll, on everyone, if your going to do it do it right, and find the best trainer you can, he will hir the cut man, he has the connections and the experience to back your ass up, thats what you pay him for. -
I just skimmed through your post. It seems you want to discipline your fighting and it seems you have had alot of street fights. My advice, is get off the whole street fighting thing and find an MMA gym you can train at. If you want to fight then build your skills enough where you can take it into a competitive level.I myself love to fight and have had my share of street fights, but they arent the way to do it. Ive been charged with assault and battery, ive been in trouble a few times for it (Years ago) it all isnt worth the trouble. I also had anger problems and would just fight because i was mad. After training MMA for less than 2 months i learned alot about discipline and respect. Now i am preparing for my first Pankration tournament which will be on April 6th (California Pankration State Championship) in southern LA. My advice is if you really love to fight and you want to be disciplined, find a gym, train for awhile and start competing.

I wasn't suggesting he do huge weights and get really big, but 10-15 reps on bench aggressively pushing the bar will give you very good endurance, strength and make you very quick, without gaining any significant bulk. He could do 100 reps with a light weight and it would probably make an awesome exercise.
One thing I have noticed though is MMA fighters tend to be bigger than boxers. I know there are weight classes and all, but I doubt being quick and agile has much benefit when you're on the ground wrestling.
-
what gym do you train at? cause i live in southern LA near downtown, and also where is the tournament at? i'd love to watch you go fight and maybe even meet you in person...i dont really know of any MMA gyms around Montebello, but theres a small boxing gym nearby that i was considering so i could learn some better form.

I train at IMS academy in Santa Cruz. Im driving up with the team to Santa Ana.I'l be competing in the Junior division (Ages 15-17) i believe. Im 17 and im a small guy. About 5'4 112 pounds. Its possible i will be fighting a weightclass or 2 up just because there arent many 17 year olds my size. I believe the tournament is at Santa Ana College on April 6th. Which should be a Sunday.
-
imma find out more about that and try to go, ill let you know if i am able to go, wow... 112 and 5'4... i think you needa play some basketball and stretch your body out a bit, does your family have tall genes?
-
Play basketball? You're joking, right?.
-
Iv said it many times and Ill repeat it again, SIZE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ABILITY TO FIGHT.wrestling and grappling especially shorter men do better, lower center of gravity and better balance. the only time size helps is boxing where you need that longer reach.
-
Haha if my family had tall genes do you think i would be 5'4 112. My mom is about the same height, and i never met my dad (He passed away) but i think he was only between 5'7-5'10.Im not to worried about size thought, im a strong little shit. My smallest sparing partner is 140 and heaviest is 200. Plus technique > strength.

for the record sdp, basketball helps you lengthen your body. from all the stretching and jumping you do, similar to volleyball. and if your talking about how his height is to small to play bball, allen iverson is pretty damn short and he plays NBA, look up the pharmacist, he's like 5'8 and theres quite a bit of people that size that can dunk...and to grvty, you right about the wrestling and such, but he's in MMA, you kinda need that reach for tough grapples, AND for the boxing part of it, i dont think you can tap out EVERY opponent, and not have to punch a couple of times,:-) i like the size im at 5'10 is a good size to be for boxing, i have pretty good reach, and i have a strong upper torso for grapples, and hey, MMAfighter, im not baggin on your size, but if anything, u can be the shortest MMA fighter in the ufc, lol that would be one hell of a strategy, be tiny, and then crawl between there legs, rear neck chokehold, tap... lol
-
for the record sdp, basketball helps you lengthen your body. from all the stretching and jumping you do, similar to volleyball. Can you provide that record for me please? Have you ever thought that perhaps people that play that sport are naturally tall because it's an advantage in the sport???Playing these sports DOES NOT make you taller.

It's all in your bones. No matter how much sports you play, you will not grow any taller.

omg... lol you two are like kids, where everytime i say black, they say white, i say blue, they say red, i say milk they say soda.playing sports does help your body, and if you start young playing sports your body does stretch, they have awards given to athletes at the end of basketball seasons in middle school for most improved, as well as most, uhhh i cant remember the word, but it means growth from original height, to current height.its called adaption, when your body does things consistently it adapts to it. that is why, football players are buff and remain at a good 6'2-6'6 height... yes what you said does come into play about how your body is made to do something and thats why you do it, but theres alot of people who's genes arent made for the things they like to do...i mean YEA, its not gonna make a difference if you play volleyball 3-4 times a week, it is however going to make a difference if you play it 7 or more times a week, your body is going to get longer, and you will gain an increase in your vertical jump...here, so that you can see how the information im stating is if not semi, but at least partially correct.ok, measure how high you can jump vertically, time your fastest 40 yard dash, then get a 25-45 lb weight, put it in a backpack, and walk with it on for 16 hours a day, from morning to night, then after a week take it off. go do your vertical jump, go do your dash, your body became accustomed to the weight and adapted.if your constantly stretching your body in sports, and jumping, your body IS going to stretch to accommodates the needs your body is trying to reach.whatever im tired of arguing with you two... theres no point in it, statistically wise, its possible, as so many other athletes have done it, until either of you goes outside and jumps up and trys to touch the net of a basketball rim 500-1000 times a day, for a month or two straight. and then tell me and prove to me and alot of other people that it's not possible, me and about 10 billion other people are going to believe this...
-
Dude ... when you're wrong you're wrong.. You're talking apples and oranges..Sports are not going to make you taller.... End of story. You can write a whole essay if you like, but you're still wrong. i mean YEA, its not gonna make a difference if you play volleyball 3-4 times a week, it is however going to make a difference if you play it 7 or more times a week, your body is going to get longer, and you will gain an increase in your vertical jump... Yeah your vertical jump will get better from strengthening your muscles and whatever, but not becasue it made you taller..Stick with talking about apples and not oranges. Or visa versa LOL
-
Wow, you're even dumber than I thought. Basketball makes you taller? Seriously.
