lol yes i heard of them "mimicking" that shit. but come on guys. you really think for one second thats why Tim was beheaded?!?!get real. the guy was INSANE. im sure he wasnt mimicking some shit from a movie/game. sure you see that shit on movies everyday. but its only the crazy bastards who "mimick" it.

Stabbing and Beheading on Greyhound

hahahaha wow, someone had alot of free time, darn no kathwack though.
-
but its only the crazy bastards who "mimick" it. Violence is violence.. It doesn't exactly have to be mimicked.. and we're talking about "crazy bastards", not the general population.
-
there are, but theyre the exception not the rule. This beheading wasn't one of those "excepions?"
-
i know that. thats why i put "mimicked" in quotations.
-
Its not JUST the medias fault. some people are just bad people. its not because its like "ohhh WOW!! i just saw someone cut a victims head off in this movie. i think ill do the same!! it looks sooo cool! horray for life in jail!!!" seriously now. you cant put all the blame on the media. thats just ridiculous. =/
-
i didnt say it wasnt

I agree with you Ash. I think people who commit crimes similar to movies or TV are already sick to begin with. No mentally healthy person would confuse fantasy from reality. And a decent, moral person wouldn't renact crimes. It really grinds my gears when people use the media as a scapegoat, especially when it comes to kids. There are TV, movie, and video game ratings so people would be more conscious of what their kids are exposed to.

Man, you TOTALLY missed the point of what I was saying. I challenge you to consider thinking beyond simple black and white.I absolutely did NOT say that this movie or any movie bore any responsibility for what this monster did. That would be a totally numbnut thing to say. In fact, my point had nothing to do with the movie (which I loved, by the way). It had to do with the people watching the movie. I was talking about what I see as the hypocrisy of folks who are angry and disgusted by what this monster did, but then turn around and glory in/are entertained by the same sorts of things happening on screen. And I'm not complaining about the thngs that are in the movie. It was not graphic and it was in keeping with the character. It's not the things protrayed that bother me. It's the audiance reactions to them. The clapping and laughing and the "man, that's cool". Beheadings...impalings...burnings...whatever...these things have become entertainment for our society. So why are we so baffled, asking how a person can do such a thing. That's what I was saying.

lol i get what your saying. but actually i do think beyond black and white thanks.
if thats how you thought of it, then why didnt you explain earlier in your other post?

this is the line that made me think that your blaming the media.

Quote:Damien, I agree with on what you're saying. Don't worry buddy I'm one of your supporters! lol ooookay then. supporters of what? these people who do these acts are insane to begin with. media doesnt turn a person crazy. siiigh

As I said, unless the individual is unhealthy to begin with, the media doesn't turn everyone into criminals.I'm a huge fan of the Resident Evil games, one of the most bloody and violent video games in the market. My brother is a huge fan of the Grand Thieft Auto series, the game that changed the gaming industry because of it's content. And not once have I or my brother done anything CLOSE to what we've seen.People are just simply stupid or sick. You can't blame anyone but the individual. So, how you feel about the media is fine, but I will say it's pretty twisted.

I agree totally.Virtual, were we seperated at birth?? seriously.. lol

I thought it was pretty clear in my earlier post that I was talking about the reactions of the audience.

gotcha.

I agree people shouldn't blame the media for their wicked acts. But you can't deny the fact that media does influence people. People bash celebs based off of what they see in the media when the person could be completely different. Where do you think people get stereotypes from? "Yo, I wanna be like fiddy cent home skillet buscuit werd werd." or "Oh em gee I like soooo totally wanna be like Paris Hilton el oh el!!".

It's funny how so many Christians are so into the death penalty, so into the ultimate retribution. The choice isn't between death and walking the streets.Thou shalt not kill (except when thou feelest lyke it?) Didn't Jesus counsel turning the other cheek? That if someone takes your stuff, the proper response is to give him more of your stuff, including the shirt off your back? The idea that the media is at the root of violent crime may be a convenient belief (it's always nice to have a scapegoat), but the matter is anything but clear. Japan has a lot of graphically violent media (as does Canada, in fact), yet they have far less violent crime than the U.S. does. Obviously something cultural is going on.And before you bring up how the U.S. is not religious enough, keep in mind that the U.S. is a lot more religious (Christian) than Western Europe, Canada, Australia, etc., yet the incidence of violent crime is far higher in the U.S.
