my last sentence ment that drug companies make drugs that dont work, so that people arn't cured, and will keep buying the drugs. Of course the drugs work to only a small degree, so people have a good reason to buy them. That's what i ment.To the extent that they do that, well, such is capitalism. If people are willing to buy ineffetive drugs, then some company will make them (to the extent that the government allows it). Some drugs are useful in treating chronic conditions, but of course it would be better if the conditions could be cured or prevented. This is not necessarily the fault of the drug companies. Perhaps stem cell research will eventually produce good results in this area.> can marijuana harm you in alot of ways. It depends what you meen by alot. My answer is yes.Marijuana can be harmful in various ways, as can be a lot of legal things. The question is, does the harm outhweigh the good? And who's to decide? Feel free to speak out and try to convince people that they shouldn't use marijuana. The problem is when your opinion on personal behavior, like smoking marijuana, becomes a law.> You think marijuana only affects the person trying it? what if...Give me a break. I once skied by the aftermath of a skier colliding with a tree. The skier was killed. I'm sure it had a bad effect on that person's family. All the people I saw in the clinic at Killington were costing their family, themselves, or their insurance companies money.Driving a car cross country is far more dangerous than flying. We don't outlaw cars from interstates, though.> "when your old enough, it's your choice to try and use marijuana, and it's the right choice to do so"Since I believe in personal liberty and personal responsibility, I certainly do agree with it. Notice the word "right" in that sentence? It's a very important word, if you value freedom.> If not...Well, now you know.> btw: marijuana is addictive correct?Absolutely not correct. You have a lot more reading to do on the subject.

Can marijuana harm you in a lot of ways?
-
this is kinda off subjectYes it is. What you did is known as "hijacking the thread", where you start discussing something that has nothing to do with the subject of the thread, or the original poster. I've seen it before, I think.> I was highWhat do you mean by "high"?
-
Well, first, this post is talking about drugs so it's kinda related, and second, i mean high like i was feel ing happy and high like if you smoked marijana
-
This thread is talking about the harmful effects of marijuana. You are talking about a spiked piece of gum you think someone gave you. It's a different subject entirely, and now you have another thread for your issue.

Steve I hope your talking about adult stem cell research. - making something that cures a disease would RUIN the drug industry. The drug companies want you to buy something that will work to an extent, then, on purpose, stop working. BUT make it addicted. They simply do whatever it takes to sell as many of them as possible. Think about this, they can send men to the moon. Contrstruct bombs that can wipe out masses of people. See increasable distances into outer space with super powerful telescopes. And etc. etc. however, they can’t cure cancer. Maybe they have cured cancer, but if they gave it out to people, the drug companies would lose billions of dollars in the "anti cancer drugs" Well, I recommend you read a book called "natural cures they don’t want you to know about" Cars are a method of transportation; you can’t always use a plane or a train to get where you need to all of the time. And walking, riding a bike, or using a horse even, means that you can’t venture farther from your house. Making Cars illegal would mean sacrificing allot of things, much more then marijuana. How do people know this? We’re in a country where marijuana is illegal; making it legal would just mean more smokers, nothing else really. Activities like swimming, driving cars etc. Aren't mandated to be dangerous you know. If every driver was careful then there would be no problem. On the other hand, you can’t Approach marijuana in any real way that's going to make it safer, unless you’re talking about quaintly. The same goes for cigarettes. However this is true, the government will allow something dangerous to exist if they’re profiting from it, one way or another. So if they do, all they have to do is say, it’s your right, it’s your choice. And that’s true. Actually if the government didn’t make any money from cigarettes, they would probably be along side with marijuana, illegal. And maybe my grandma would be alive today. People say it’s your right and choice to smoke. However, you’ll be thrown in a nut house if you’re caught, and stopped, in the act of suicide. Don’t get me wrong, people don’t smoke to kill themselves, at least I don’t think so… But think about when they said cigarettes were harmless… they made the choice but they didn’t know about the health risks, so was it there faults then?
-
In reply to:Maybe they have cured cancer, but if they gave it out to people, the drug companies would lose billions of dollars in the "anti cancer drugs"There are a lot of conspiracy theories about things that have been invented but quashed by corporations. The car that runs on water is an old one. My father firmly believed that someone had invented a match that could be used more than once, but the match companies had bought the patent and sat on it. (He didn't know that patents only last 14 years and they are public documents.)Anti-cancer therapy is an area in which I have some expertise, and I can assure you it's an extremely difficult area, with lots of claims of breakthroughs that come to nothing.

Steve I hope your talking about adult stem cell research.Adult and embroyonic stem cell research. The vast majority of frozen embryos will not be used, and will eventually be thrown out (they're not going to be kept frozen forever). Using them for research seems a lot more productive.> making something that cures a disease would RUIN the drug industry. ...The drug industry does what's in the best interest of its shareholders. That does not mean that there is some huge conspiracy to keep amazing drugs off the market. The first drug company that patents a drug that effectively cures a variety of cancers will become a lot bigger than Microsoft.> Think about this, they can send men to the moon. Contrstruct bombs that can wipe out masses of people. See increasable distances into outer space with super powerful telescopes. And etc. etc. however, they can’t cure cancer.Maybe because cancer is a more difficult problem? We understand the physics and engineering involved in getting a man to the moon. A nuclear bomb is a lot simpler than a human cell. Lots of money is going into cancer research. There are only so many places it can go. Most of the fundamental (and much of the advanced) pharmaceutical research goes on at universities. They get research grants from the drug industry, but I believe they get much more from the federal government. We're talking about universities populated by, as you say, liberals, not Wall Streeters.> "natural cures they don’t want you to know about"I've heard of but haven't read this conspiracy book. "Conspiracy" doesn't mean that it doesn't necessarily make any good points. But there is no "natural" cure for cancer.> Cars are a method of transportation; you can’t always use a plane or a train to get where you need to all of the time.If we took all the money we spent on drug enforcement and invested it in public transit (as some countries have done), there would be far less need to use a car to commute or to travel cross-country. It's a matter of priorities. But people in this country are devoted to their (unsafe) cars, just as some people are devoted to their bongs.> We’re in a country where marijuana is illegal; making it legal would just mean more smokers, nothing else really.Nothing? How about a reduction in the prison population, saving a bunch of money in drug enforcement costs, and getting revenue from taxation? And how about the increase in liberty?> Activities like swimming, driving cars etc. Aren't mandated to be dangerous you know. What do you mean they're not "mandated" to be dangerous? They are inherently dangerous. Except for commercial divers and the like, no one has to swim. No one has to ski.> If every driver was careful then there would be no problem. You obviously don't drive. No matter how careful you are, driving is inherently dangerous, when done by humans.> On the other hand, you can’t Approach marijuana in any real way that's going to make it safer, unless you’re talking about quaintly. The same goes for cigarettes. For cigarettes, you can get the active ingredient, nicotine, in patches, chewing gum, and nasal spray. That's a lot safer than smoking cigarettes. For marijuana, smoke it through a bong or a water pipe, or eat it in the form of hashish; don't smoke it in the form of cigarettes (worst) or pipes (a bit better than joints). Or consume one of the active ingredients, THC, in the form of a liquid that you can legally get at your local pharmacy.> However this is true, the government will allow something dangerous to exist if they’re profiting from it, one way or another. SIf the government would legalize and tax marijuana, it would help balance the budget.> People say it’s your right and choice to smoke.I say that it should be.> However, you’ll be thrown in a nut house if you’re caught, and stopped, in the act of suicide. Don’t get me wrong, people don’t smoke to kill themselves, at least I don’t think so… But think about when they said cigarettes were harmless… they made the choice but they didn’t know about the health risks, so was it there faults then?People don't swim or smoke to commit suicide. If believe that smoking marijuana is, feel free to try to convince people of your point of view. My concern is with government regulation of personal behavior. The issue is personal liberty, not how good or bad you think pot is for you.People should do things with all available information. If they chose to take a risk, it's their right. People ski because its fun, and people smoke dope because it's fun. People drink alcohol for the same reason. The qestion is, how far do you want the government to go in telling people what the can and can't do? And why does pleasure have no value?
-
True. The most probably reason i never understood that is because i never really though that the right to endanger yourself was that important of a right, whether or not the danger itself caused personal pleasure. But i never said anything about " a good country, is a country with dangerous cars " Considering it's the most abused illegal drug in the country, i dont think it would make a big difference if it was legal. Maybe the death rate would increase, But who cares? Let them die. ( SC ) As long as The people who sell the drug arn't lieing about what the drug does for you (and they almost always do. Even if they have to say 20 of the dangers in super fast talking so no one cares) Then it's they're fault. Yes marijuana can harm you, and so can alot of other things.and Steve, if you've never read the book i dont think you could really be sure if they'res a holistic remedy for cancer that people dont want the pupblic knowing about.
-
In reply to:The most probably reason i never understood that is because i never really though that the right to endanger yourself was that important of a right, whether or not the danger itself caused personal pleasure. The issue isn't that the danger causes pleasure. I don't think people get high becuase the element of medical danger excites them. They do it becuase they find it pleasurable. Not everyone finds it pleasurable. But recreational skiing and scuba are also inherently dangerous activites. How do they serve an economic purpose any more than marijuana use does (or would, if it were legal)? In reply to:The most probably reason i never understood that is because i never really though that the right to endanger yourself was that important of a right, whether or not the danger itself caused personal pleasure.Over the years, I've read about and heard a lot of conspiritorial nonsense. The basic assumption of most conspiracies is that people actually have the ability to keep secrets for a long time. What specifically in the book do you find so compelling?

We’re in a country where marijuana is illegal; making it legal would just mean more smokers, nothing else really.>Nothing? How about a reduction in the prison population, saving a bunch of money in drug enforcement costs, and getting revenue from taxation? And how about the increase in liberty?I wanted to add, that hemp (a product of the marijuana plant) has so many practicle uses it is ridiculous. It alone could replace so many things in this world at a fraction of the cost. I can't tell you how useful hemp is. If marijuana was legal the hemp industry would be fantastic.>As long as The people who sell the drug arn't lieing about what the drug does for you (and they almost always do. Even if they have to say 20 of the dangers in super fast talking so no one cares) Then it's they're fault. If your buying ANY drug you should know what it does...(and its dangers)
-
[Your last quote should be double-bracketed...it wasn't me speaking.]Hemp and marijuana are both varieties of the Cannabis sativa plant, but hemp is not marijuana. Smoking hemp will not get you high. You can buy lots of things made of hemp right now.Hemp versus MarijuanaGoogle "hemp clothing" for all kinds of hemp items you can buy.
-
Fair enough but it's still illegal to grow hemp (in the US).

STONED IS THE WAY TO GO..... i hardly do anything anyway ... "no personal experiance on this 1" heh just playin.... but to get on with the post.... u are a fuckin queer "i ride my bike to enjoy the trees" "weeee" fuck u .... fuck u all.. i smoke weed... i love it...damn ... u fuckers are like... weird... damn not to pick on this dipshit... but i dont understand anything u said so thats why i replyed to ur post.... my friend told me to read the harms of pot... but damn.... i mean seriously u guys r messed up.... I just changed my opinion. Marijuana will fry your brain.
-
well, that "med r us" guy seems to have a postive opinion on the subject...............and I think he's right.................................................

Most people don't understand that MJ is highly addictive to a large percentage of those that use it. There is a family in our neighborhood that has gone through hell with their sons addiction to MJ. Not only that but they have spent around $50,000 this past year on him for programs. He has responded well but his parents are wrecks. I wouldn't touch the stuff.
-
Most people don't understand that MJ is highly addictive to a large percentage of those that use it.That is absurd. What is your definition of "addiction"? I'm sorry about you neighbor's kids, but there are countless millions of people who have smoked marijuana who are not addicted (including me and most of my friends).
-
Sounds like over paranoid parents... or one fucked up kid. It probably went more like this: Kid is smoking pot... Lets get him into therapy.. Theripist says he needs months of it... Kid is like WTF? ... Keeps smoking pot becaue he reliazes his parents and the theripist is on crack.... Months later... 50k debt and theripist has new BMW..Something about your story doesn't add up... What was wrong with him?I smoke daily... 3+ times a day.. Some days.. I dont feel like it, so I dont. Some days, Im busy, and I cant, so I dont... If it was a true addiction, I couldn't do this...
-
> I smoke daily... 3+ times a day.. Some days.. I dont feel like it, so I dont. Some days, Im busy, and I cant, so I dont... If it was a true addiction, I couldn't do this...
I don't think missing one or a few days proves much. If you were off it for a few months, I'd be impressed.
-
Why would I? There is no need to. If there becomes a need (Piss test for a job) then I will stop for a month or two.. But other then that.. Why? Im doing fine in school.. Not broke (No I dont deal) .. I mean.. I dont get high all day.. I usually start afternoon/late afternoon and in to the evening when I do smoke..
