Thor, that who paragraph was void coming from you because you pick and choose parts of the bible that best suits your needs and than you disregard the rest. If you truly understood the bible you’d understand there are NO circumstances that you have the right to judge others. According to the bible, the only person worthy of judging is Christ himself because no one else is as perfect as he. So unless you think you are as perfect and Holy as Christ, you have no right to judge another human being regardless of their actions.>but there is a time for judgement as to what is right and what is wrong, to include right and wrong behaviors. Some people mistake this for judging the person...which, again, takes us back to the difference between the person and the behaviorThat’s where you are wrong! It’s okay to no like someone’s behavior but that still does not give you the right to place judgment on that behavior regardless if it’s against Christ’s “rules”.
-
IS it?
-
Placing judgement on the behavior is not the same as placing judgement on the person.Prov.31 [9] Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.Yes, Old Testament...but Christ quoted the Old Testament again and again throughout the gospel. Why did Christ do this, do you think? But just in case you still don't buy it:John.7 [24] Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. There is nothing wrong with judging behaviors as appropriate or not as long as such judgments are in line with the Bible. The problem is there are those who deny that a person is separate from his/her actions in order to hide behind Christ's admonition of those who judge other people.
-
Again I don't follow my life by the Old Testament, as I was raised to follow the New Testament because we are under the new covenant of Christ not the laws of the Old Testament.Regardless Christ never came around until the New Testament, at least never took his Physical Form until then. The prophets foretold of his coming. There are NO direct quotes from Christ in the Old Testament which is why it shouldn't be taken as law.

i just dont understand how people can be so religious. it escapes me.

First of all, nobody can make somebody else feel like shit for what they're doing unless they themself already know they shouldn't be doing it. I don't know about that... I usually feel pretty bad when anyone yells at me, even if what they say isn't true. Actually, I feel bad when I hear someone yelling at someone else, too, or even when I'm yelling at someone. Heated conflict in general makes me feel bad.>I don't understand why you think I don't understand that.I know you understand that... Let me put it this way... I understand the concept of communism, but that doesn't mean I am a member of the communist party. I understand why girls are anorexic or bulimic, but it doesn't mean I am one myself. And I don't even pretend to fully understand the Bible, but that doesn't mean I don't believe in God. Understanding doesn't mean a whole lot... "Actions speak louder than words."

According to the bible, the only person worthy of judging is Christ himself because no one else is as perfect as he. That's what I tried to tell him. He has himself confused with Jesus.> Prov.31 [9] Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.Spoken like a good conservative Republican...not. The more I think about it, the more I thing that conservative evangelical Republicans face a future of eternal damnation, if Jesus actually meant what he said.Thor has a habit of picking and choosing what suits him from the Old Testament, and skipping over the really weird stuff. He would be a better Christian if he stopped playing games with the scriptures and just followed what Jesus said, including the intent of the words.Jesus wants us to give our stuff away, feed the hungry, give the homeless man the shirt off your back, etc. I don't recall reading anything about tax cuts or judging and condemning willy-nilly. What a shameful perversion of Jesus' teachings. It's almost as if he's proud of being a bad Christian, but figures accepting Christ is his ace in the hole. Very sad.

Prov.31 [9] Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy."judge rightiously" the deffinition of rightious is "In accordance with principles of right or good conduct" do you think its good conduct to bash those that dont follow your religion? "plead the cause of the poor and needy." is that honestly what your doing? John.7 [24] Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.again, the deffinition of rightious is "In accordance with principles of right or good conduct" if your deffinition of right is shoving your religion so far down others throughts they can quote bible versus from their ass your doing a great job

Yelling can bug me too...depending on the tone of voice. Doesn't even matter if it's aimed at me or not. I think it's an instinctive response many folks have."Actions speak louder than words."I see...so now you're judging that I don't live by what I'm talking about (practicing what I'm preaching)? You don't know me nearly well enough to know that. A few snippets on a message board is a poor indicator of how one lives his or her life, generally speaking.

"again, the deffinition of rightious is "In accordance with principles of right or good conduct" if your deffinition of right is shoving your religion so far down others throughts they can quote bible versus from their ass your doing a great job"Spoken like a person who's realized he's run out of ammunition and lost the debate. But no...that's not quite it. You'd have to go on and add that the principles of right and good conduct come from the Bible...which I have previously alluded to.
-
I see...so now you're judging that I don't live by what I'm talking about (practicing what I'm preaching)? You don't know me nearly well enough to know that. A few snippets on a message board is a poor indicator of how one lives his or her life, generally speaking.Wow...Simply put…Practice what your preach. In this thread alone you have judge a few people and you don't know them either but as soon as someone else puts it back on you you yell judgment.
-
You don't understand what you're talking about.
-
KK perhaps in your little world... but I think you need to look in the mirror before you tell someone else they don't know what they are talking about.
-
I was speaking about how you'd have to spend a lot more time with a person before knowing what she said about me to be true or not. Nothing about whether or not it was OK to judge. Follow the thread if you're going to comment, please.
-
Watch your yourself Thor...First off I am following the thread, so no need to get nasty.Secondly, I understood fairly well what you meant and my comment to what you said still holds.
-
Since when has the word "please" implied nasty? Boy aren't you just looking for a fight today.
-
ROFL..
You're not worth the energy. Look at the structure of your message and the tone is obvious.
Either keep it on track of a respectable debate or the thread will be locked.
-
Unless you've got more, I'm done.

so, I told my father about this debate, and he, being the Reverend at an Anglican church, directed me to romans chapters 1 and 2, and so, Romans chapter 1 is paul talking about Rome, he speaks of all these terrible thigns they do, so as you read you think, "oh! thats awful! what terrible people! They didnt! good god! their awful" then romans 2 says, "you think thats bad? guess what? your worse because you pass judgement on them" the opening verse of romans 2 is
"You therefore have no excuse, you who pass judgement on someone are condemming yourself, because you who pass judgement do the same thing."
the third verse is "so when you, a mere man, pass judgement on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape gods judgement?"
back to what i do believe was the spark of this whole debate, is masturbation a sin? I dont care if it is, I dont care if you quote every verse in the bible to try and convince me, I have a philosiphy "to each his own" I dont care if you think masturbation is a sin and so choose not to do it, but when YOU begin to tell others that they are in the wrong by doing it, you commit an even worse sin. Wow, from an athiest thats pretty good eh?
-
To clarify, passing judgement on people (they were terrible!) is different than judging what they did (what they did was terrible!) Big, big difference.
BTW, I don't think masturbation is a sin either...in case you missed it earlier.
